Lucas is the nephew of former McLaren and Ferrari F1 driver Gerhard Berger.  He is the son of Berger’s sister Claudia, who runs a transport company in Worgl in Tyrol, not far from Berger’s own family business.

He is the 2011 JK Racing Asia Series champion.  The JK Racing Series is the eighth season of Formula BMW racing in Asia. The championship began on 9 April 2011 at Sepang in Malaysia, and concluded at the same circuit on 4 December.

Lucas began his racing career in karts in 2001, taking a second place in the 2001 Tirol Championship and then winning the following year.  A string of top results followed , including outright wins in 2006 and 2007 in the DMV German Championship.

To date in his post-karting career he has scored seven wins from 20 starts with six pole positions, 18 podium finishes and ten fastest laps.

Away from the race track, Lucas enjoys football, baseball and ice hockey.  He is fluent in German and English.

Lucas races in the 2012 Toyota Racing Series with Giles Motorsport, and aims to win the championship as a springboard into Formula 3.
