Quincy all at sea in TRS2 0
Just days after rowing solo across the Tasman Sea, Shaun Quincy was delighted to take a back seat role in the TRS2 at Taupo on Saturday.
The Aucklander had the best chauffeur possible, double TRS Champion Daniel Gaunt.
Shaun and his partner Lisa were guests of Toyota and he was happy to share tales of his dramatic 50 days at sea with guests over lunch.
For the warm-up and pace laps of the Saturday 15 lapper he was strapped in behind Gaunt for his first taste of motorsport.
“This is just awesome,” he declared after his switch from battling the elements to fighting G-forces in the confines of the two seater.
Incidentally, Daniel Gaunt – the most winning driver in TRS during the last six seasons – is now under threat for the top spot.
Earl Bamber’s win in the Saturday race was his 15th in TRS, drawing him level with Andy Knight in the all-time standings.
Daniel Gaunt has won 20 TRS races including the Lady Wigram Trophy and the New Zealand Grand Prix on his way to back-to-back titles.
Considering Sunday’s Denny Hulme Memorial Trophy will be the 120th TRS race since the series began in 2005, that is an impressive win rate.
